Hard work and perseverance is what it takes to make it in the music
industry. Just ask producer and songwriter Chris Perry. Having produced
scores of local indie talent Perry moved into the major label remixing
arena working with TLC, Edwin, Snow, Our Lady Peace, Jacksoul, and
Organized Rhyme. In 2000, he signed on to Camara Alford’s management
company UOMO and their focus quickly shifted to major label production
and song-writing. Chris Perry has since become one of the most sought
after writer and producer in the country, having written and produced
hit singles such as “Talk to Me” – George, “All I Ever Wanted” – Brian
Melo, “Unpredictable” - Keshia Chanté, “Let’s Go” - Shawn
Desman, “Something More” – Ryan Malcolm, “Awake in a Dream” - Kalan
Porter, “Run” – Rex Goudie, “Moviestar” – Rascalz, “IE” – In Essence.
Perry’s creativity has been instrumental in the success of top Canadian
Idol stars. He co-wrote and produced the Canadian Idol winner Ryan
Malcolm’s single “Something More.” Malcolm’s release through BMG went
6x Platinum and enjoyed 16 weeks as the #1 selling single in Canada.
Perry co-wrote five songs and produced four more on Malcolm’s album,
also a platinum success.
Perry is also responsible for hits from Canadian Idol sensation Kalan
Porter having written and produced “Awake in a Dream” along with five
other songs on the album. The single eclipsed the previous year's
winning title, selling 8x Platinum, and boasting the highest single
sales debut of 2004 and was the highest selling Canadian Artist's
single debut in the history of Nielsen’s Soundscan.
He also wrote and produced half of Melissa O’Neil’s self titled album,
as well as several songs on runner up Rex Goudie’s album “Under the
Lights” including the hit single “Run” which became the highest
charting "Idol" single at radio, reaching #1 on the AC chart in
February of 2006. He also most recently co-wrote and produced the 2007
Canadian Idol winner’s single “All I Ever Wanted” for Brian Melo which
was also a feature song for CBC television’s coverage of the Beijing
Olympics.
Branching into international territory, Perry co-wrote and produced the
single “Colourblind” for the hit television program “One Million Star”
in Taiwan. A singing competition similar to the format of the
Idol brand, “Colourblind” was the winner’s single for Season Three of
the program.
He also wrote and produced “Call You When I Get There” (performed by
Tara Oram) the theme song for the Country Music Television (CMT)
Network’s new reality show “The Tara Diaries”.
Perry co-wrote and produced seven songs for the debut album by pop/RnB
sensation George (Fontana/Universal), including the first single "Talk
To Me" which topped the MuchMusic chart. George's second single, "Lie
To Me" was also co-written by Perry.
On top of all of his other success Perry’s talents have been recognized
by SOCAN, winning Number 1 Awards for Keshia Chanté's single
"Bad Boy", Shawn Desman’s single “Let’s Go”, Rex Goudie’s single “Run”,
and George’s single “Talk to Me”.
The future is looking bright for Chris Perry. He has exploded onto the
popular music scene and is poised to continue redefining success on the
international stage.
